Equestrian sports in the life of Georgina Bloomberg

Horse racing in Bloomberg’s life came very early. She first rode a horse when she was only four years old. She started horse riding professionally and began competing for the first time at the age of six. It was a major horse racing competition on the East Coast of the United States. Bloomberg won the best child rider award at her first competition in life.

Year after year, her sports career was on the rise. She participated in numerous competitions around the world, represented the USA, her native city of New York and won prizes. She became a true professional and outstanding equestrian.

In addition to equestrian sports, Bloomberg was keen on skydiving.

Own company and equestrian sports team

In 2018, at the age of 35, Bloomberg founded her own company, the New York Empire. She built a team of the best and most experienced riders.

Part of the Bloomberg team is skilled riders from across the world:

  • Scott Brash from Great Britain
  • Denis Lynch from Ireland
  • Spencer Smith from the USA
  • Harry Charles from Great Britain
  • Jodie Hall McAteer from Great Britain.

Congenital condition and injuries from equestrian sports

Equestrian sports are quite traumatic. Many athletes have suffered multiple injuries to their arms, legs, head and back during their sports careers. Bloomberg was also severely injured.

In particular, she had a congenital condition. She was born with spondylolisthesis of the back. Because of this innate peculiarity, her back could easily fracture at the slightest blow. Horseback riding greatly increased the risk of a broken back, but it did not stop Bloomberg on the way to success. However, no one has ever been safe from accidents, including Bloomberg. She suffered her first back fracture at the age of 22. Then was intensive training for another race. But instead of competing, Bloomberg was bedridden. Despite this, she said that she wanted to return to sports in a few days. Her rehabilitation process was very long and involved wearing a special brace.

In 2011, Bloomberg had back surgery. Namely, her spine was reshaped. After the surgery, she had to recover for the endless eight months.

Philanthropy in Bloomberg’s life

Georgina Bloomberg, like her father who is the former New York mayor, in addition to her main activities, was enthusiastically engaged in charity. When she was 23 years old, she founded the Rider’s Closet fund, which collected new and used riding clothing. The fund donated all the collected clothes to centers that had a therapeutic riding program. Plus, it was given to various pony clubs, other organizations and average people in need.

Moreover, Bloomberg has been an animal activist all her life. She was the founder of the committee that collaborated with the animal protection organization in the USA. It fights the inhumane treatment of dogs in kennels.

In the 2020s, Bloomberg continues to be active in equestrian sports, despite the received trauma and surgery and also does charity work. In the 21st century, she is rightfully considered one of the best horse riders not only in New York but across the United States.
